New Acquisitions. 17 New Works by: Candido Fior, Pompeo Pianezzola, Antonio Riello, Cesare Sartori, Alberto Scodro, Alessio Tasca

The exhibition is the outcome of a long journey, which began with a project that won “PAC2021 – Plan for Contemporary Art” of the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture, presented by the Conservator Alessandro Bertoncello in collaboration with Prof. Nico Stringa, which proposed the acquisition of these 17 works in the collection of the museum.

The works acquired are mostly pieces by authors who are poorly represented in the collections of the Civic Museum, but are essential to complete the history of ceramics in Nove and to connect tradition with the contemporary. These ceramic artists have innovated the language of ceramics by dialoguing with and putting themselves at the level of painting and sculpture.

Licisco Magagnato, historic director of the Castelvecchio Museum in Verona, describes the innovative drive of the group in the catalogue of the 1982 exhibition “Seven Contemporary Ceramists", in which some of the acquired artists participated (Alessio Tasca, Pompeo Pianezzola, Cesare Sartori, Candido Fior) : “[…] a return to work within the artisan workshop, renewed in its methods and equipment, has occurred […] in the last ten years by a vanguard of old and young artisans, who benefited from a new relationship with contemporary artistic culture, breaking away from traditional ties with artisan production […]. Creativity, often of an openly experimental nature […] has in the last fifteen years transferred to the artisan sector experiences that until then were considered typical of the activity of so-called pure art […].
Thus, the craftsman has provided new techniques to the artist’s inventiveness, indeed the limits between the two fields of work have become blurred if not cancelled. […] It is a phenomenon that we do not hesitate to define as of historical importance.”

To the list of these authors, fundamental for our collection, we add two contemporary authors who, starting from the local territory, have achieved critical success at an international level, also using ceramics and its processes.
